04/09/2020  Below is in her own words and written today (for ACS CAN share your story)-- Imagine all of your goals in life are set. You've hoped, dreamed, and fought so hard to position yourself to gain what you want. Then, you wake up after what you're told is a simple out patient procedure to find out you have cancer. A few weeks later you find out it is stage 3. Then, you find out chemo and radiation are necessary in order for you to survive. You just lost every goal and dream you had, and somehow you have to pick yourself back up. On October 11, 2019 I was diagnosed with endometrial carcinoma. A cancer that generally effects women over 60 was attacking my 28 year old body. There isn't much I can say that you don't know. It was scary, heartbreaking, and the worst moment of my life. Luckily I have a loving family that has guided me through every bit of this, and I can honestly say WE have faced my diagnosis together. My mother made it a commitment to attend every doctors visit, and sit with me for hours in every chemotherapy. Then, COVID-19 hit. I can't speak for other people, but as a current patient hoping to make it to being a survivor, this pandemic is horrifying. I understand and value the precautions hospitals are taking, but as someone in my position nothing is scarier than facing cancer alone. My mom being with me during appointments and treatments is a small reminder that it isn't just me fighting. It helps provide clarity when chemo brain gets the best of me. She's someone who reminds me of the good we take from visits. Best of all, she is the constant countdown that remission is right around the corner. No one has ever hoped for cancer, and when you hear you have it, your mind goes dark. When patients have comfort in things or people - they don't want to lose that. Sometimes those people that now can't enter facilities with us, are the only ones reminding us to keep fighting. They help us know it's going to be okay. And, to be honest, sometimes they have more faith than we do. It takes their faith to get us through.
