Matt Barbour is enjoying his new adventure in Mid-Michigan! He’s worked in Broadcast Journalism for more than 10 years, making stops in Kentucky, Indiana, Tennessee, and South Carolina. When he’s not at work, he enjoys exploring the natural beauty the mitten state has to offer with his wife, 3-year-old daughter, and their Boston Terrier, Jeeves.
Matt co-anchors ABC12 News This Morning with Christine Winter from 4:30 to 7 a.m., and the ABC12 News at Noon on WJRT-TV. He joined the ABC12 team in April of 2019, coming from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where he was a morning anchor at WPDE-TV.
He started his career in broadcasting as an intern for WSB-TV in Atlanta before landing his first on-air job as a reporter/anchor for WYMT-TV in Hazard, Kentucky. He also reported for WYMT’s sister station, WKYT, in Lexington. Matt then worked as a reporter for WEHT-TV in Evansville, Indiana, before heading to Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he served as the weekend evening anchor for WRCB-TV.
While earning his degree in journalism from Georgia State University, Matt also interned with the I-Team at WJLA-TV in Washington, D.C., and took a course at the George Washington University.
While in college, Matt also participated in the International Scholar Laureate Program in Melbourne and Sydney, Australia. It was the experience of a lifetime!
Matt grew up in Stone Mountain, Georgia. His parents will tell you he was born with an innate curiosity and always liked “being in the know” (he’s nosey).
Why I Wear Pink
Breast cancer affects everyone - it doesn't matter if you're a man or a woman. I’m thankful to say my family hasn’t directly been impacted by breast cancer, but I’ve seen firsthand over the years the toll it can take on friends and educators. That's why I'm stepping up to fight breast cancer with all I have. Since I'm in a position to make a difference within my community, I believe I have an obligation to do so. By raising money and awareness through Real Men Wear Pink, I'm helping to save more lives from breast cancer. We must support each other in the fight and finding a cure!
What are you most excited about being involved in the Real Men Wear Pink Campaign?
Showing the community ANYONE can join in supporting those impacted by breast cancer, and there’s more work to be done on finding a cure.
