Why I am Making Strides

6 YEARS!! WOW

Everyone knows October is breast cancer awareness month and I (Jen) am a breast cancer warrior as I was originally given 3 month and a 20% chance to live. Today I’m 7 years out and three years NED what is NED? No Evidence Of Disease this is a cancer patients dream. Why am I still here? Part stubborn determination and a will that won’t quit, I had one Dr. tell me to get my affairs in order and basically he wouldn’t help me... this was supposed to be the best of the best... I found a Dr. that that was willing to try and the rest is history. I am here because of the research done by the American cancer society, if it wasn’t for the groundbreaking research I literally would not be here today, if I had gotten sick 10 years ago I would not be here. My subtype is rare... triple negative metastatic metaplastic breast cancer... wow that was a mouthful what does all that mean? That means tripple negative I can only use chemo and radiation to treat what I have; metastatic stage 4 normally game over; metapastic less then 2% of all cancer worldwide is metapastic in breast cancer it’s 1%... what does metapastic mean? It disguises itself as changes it is very aggressive and often chemo resistant... again game over. I however am still here because of medication available through research and a oncologist that gave me a chance. As they say the medication works until it doesn’t then i need a new one and we need research to find the next medication for me and other warriors alike. One of my chemos was a clinical trial for my subtype when I started this journey and it worked... I’m helping to blaze a trail for others behind me who may find themselves in the same predicament.

My family and I walk for those who can’t. We walk for the ones who went down swinging but ultimately lost their battles. We walk for my bueatiful aunt who we miss dearly.

This year we also lost another trail blazer and although she had another type of cancer she was entirely to young and nonetheless a warrior and hero in every sense of the definition.

Thank you to those who have already donated.

Like so many others, breast cancer is a very personal cause for me. It gives me the chance to make a difference and to honor those touched by breast cancer by raising funds for groundbreaking research, and services for people dealing with breast cancer.  I believe that there will come a day where the pain caused by breast cancer is a thing of the past. And until it arrives, I’m walking to inspire hope to those facing the disease and raising money for the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event to help save lives from breast cancer.  I hope you’ll consider signing up too.

Why I Support the American Cancer Society

Every day, the American Cancer Society helps people take steps to reduce their risk of breast cancer or find it early when it is easiest to treat. They provide free information and services when and where people need it throughout their journey to get well. They are investing in innovative research to find, prevent, and treat breast cancer.

I have signed up to walk and fundraise for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event. I hope you will consider joining my team and/or making a donation in support of my efforts.

Together, we can make a difference.

Welcome to our Team Page. We've formed a team because this cause is important to us. We want to help. And walking and raising money in our local American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event is the best way we can do that. We all have different reasons for participating but we share a determination to help save lives from breast cancer.

There are so many ways that the money our team raises helps. It’s helping fund innovative research. It's providing free information for people dealing with the disease. It’s providing rides to treatment and places to stay for people who have to seek treatment far from home. In short, our money is helping save lives. Consider donating to our team and helping advance the cause.

How We Support the American Cancer Society

Of course we walk in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event. And we solicit donations from family, friends, and other supporters. But we also schedule fundraisers in lead-up to the big event. Bake-sales, car washes, and countless other types of events. And we promote those on social media, through Facebook and Twitter, by word of mouth, and through flyers at work and around the neighborhood. The success of fundraising events depends on two things - hard work and getting the word out. And we're out to do both. Keep an eye out for our fundraising events.
