HERE WE GO AGAIN FOR ROUND 4! Real Men Wear Pink of the Valley 2020 (Year of the COVID)!
I will wear pink again in 2020 during EVERY DAY IN OCTOBER to bring awareness to this fight to make cancer obsolete!
For those of you who don't already know, I am joining forces again this year with the American Cancer Society to be a Real Men Wear Pink of the Valley participant. My personal goal is to raise $15,000 (or more) during the month of October to push all in towards ending cancer, and especially breast cancer. If we reach this goal, Team Sandy will have raised over $50,000 in 4 SHORT YEARS!
My Mom, Sandy, passed away due to cancer a few years ago. In her memory, I will refer to anyone who participates with me as part of "Team Sandy". Some knew her as a sister, daughter, wife, Didi, teacher, colleague, friend, or amazing gift from God. I knew her simply as Mom. She lived life, even with cancer, with more passion and happiness than most people do. She wanted to see, hear, feel, taste, touch, and experience everything she could, anywhere she could. Even when she battled cancer (and battle she did!), she did it to LIVE, not to wither away and die. She would take a treatment, book a trip somewhere in the world, wait for the nausea to pass, and hop a plane to spend as much time as she could with family and friends before returning to the Sentara RMH Cancer Center to let the wonderful doctors, nurses, and pharmacists pump her full of more meds so that she could be off and running again. This was her goal: to do all she could NOT TO GIVE CANCER THE LAST WORD. And she didn't. She FOUGHT.
She's the inspiration behind my personal Real Men Wear Pink Campaign. Mom, and courageous folks like her who battle cancer, win or lose, with a love for life and those around them inspire me.
So here we go! A month of lots of pink will follow in October. We'll do some fun things to raise much needed awareness. It'll be ridiculous at times. It will be serious at times. I hope it will make you think ALL the time. But I also don't want you to think that this is a gimmick. This is a commitment to raise cold hard cash to make cancer history. And so here I am, asking you if there is anything you can give. Not only will your donation go DIRECTLY to the American Cancer Society, but you will be a part of "Team Sandy". I truly could think of no greater honor. So whether she was family, worked with you for years, grew up with you in Harrisonburg, planned your vacation or honeymoon, or changed your life, I hope you'll join "Team Sandy" in her memory. If you didn't get to know her, I can't think of a better reason to donate, because cancer took away the chance to meet her. Mom was a fighter, and fight is what "Team sandy" plans to do for the upcoming month of October.
I won't bombard you with emails; that's not my goal. But I will keep you updated as the month progresses, and as "Team Sandy" grows even more this year into a group of people with a singular goal: living to see the END OF CANCER.
I hope you'll look around on my page, learn a little more about my reasons for joining the Real Men Wear Pink campaign, and I hope as you see social media posts or get these emails, you will pass them along to to others who may want to join "Team Sandy", whether in her memory or someone else's who has been affected by cancer. Let's fight hand in hand, one pink shirt, tie, ribbon, bracelet, or pin at a time, and honor those who have battled this nasty disease so that we can make it a part of history sooner rather than later.
I hope you'll join me (and Mom) to fight hard to put and end to cancer in our world!
Please forward this email, share my page link (JoinTeamSandy.com), and wear pink throughout the month of October!!
Thanks to everyone for the support!
