Why We Wear Pink
Rob Derhak: As a cancer survivor, I understand how trying the process can be. I was fortunate to have a huge team of people rooting for me and giving me support. The American Cancer Society offered help with so many avenues that I didn’t know existed which made me realize how important the organization is. They offer support for people who may not have that team in their corner. I’m wearing pink this month in remembrance of Liz Hooper, a close family friend who died from breast cancer. She was one of my wife’s best friends. Liz was an amazing mom, and wife who left behind a husband and two daughters this year.
Breast cancer affects everyone - it doesn't matter if you're a man or a woman. That's why we're stepping up to fight breast cancer with all we have. Since we are in a position to make a difference within our communities, we believe we have an obligation to do so. By raising money and awareness through Real Men Wear Pink, we're helping to save more lives from breast cancer.
Jim Loughlin: Real Men Wear Pink is an important cause to me because I’ve lost too many people who are dear to me to cancer. Awareness as well as funding for prevention and treatment are absolutely necessary. I truly believe that together, we can beat this.
Vinnie Amico: I’m wearing pink to bring awareness to breast cancer and cancer as a whole. I have close personal relationships with cancer survivors and without early detection and treatment, my good friends, brothers and sisters might not be here with us. So get screened, find out early, and get treated.
Al Schnier: Cancer impacts all of us - friends, family, co-workers, neighbors - all of us. Being married to someone who works directly for ACS has only made me more acutely aware of just how important the fundraising is - not only directly helping those battling cancer, but also in funding the research to make it treatable and not fatal.
Why We Support the American Cancer Society
Every day, the American Cancer Society is saving more lives from breast cancer than ever before. They're helping people take steps to reduce their risk of breast cancer or find it early, when it's easier to treat. They provide free information and services when and where people need it. They fund groundbreaking breast cancer research and they're working to ensure access to mammograms for women who need them.
