Why I Relay

Why I Relay

I relay for the friends and family in my life who are currently battling cancer or who have lost the fight throughout the years. My Aunt Nancy and Grandpa both passed away when I was younger from the disease, exposing me to the horrors of cancer early on.

In the fall of 2018, my cousin Maggie passed away from breast cancer. Maggie was only 36 years old and was the mother of two young boys. I relay for Maggie, who will no longer be able to see her children grow up, and I relay for her boys, who no longer have a mother because of this awful disease. The loss of Maggie is something that will stick with me and my family forever.

Finding a cure to end cancer is something I am very passionate about. This year I am excited to be a part of the Entertainment Committee to help our event be successful in rasing $500,000 for the American Cancer Society. This amount will bring Virginia Tech's total contribution to the ACS to a total of $6.5 million. I hope that some day, no family will ever have to experience a loss of someone they love from cancer again.

Funds raised support cancer patient programs and groundbreaking research that can help save lives. This event also celebrates over 15.5 million cancer survivors nationwide. 15.5 MILLION. That's huge. That's why I'd love your support. Will you walk with me? And if you can't would you be so kind as to make a donation?

Thank You Donors

Through services and resources like free rides to chemo, free places to stay near hospitals, and a live 24/7 helpline, cancer patients and their families will feel the love. Here’s how recent money raised has been put to incredible uses.

Cancer has touched all of us in some way. And we want to stop this disease in its tracks. We'll spend the next few weeks fundraising for the American Cancer Society. Then, on the day of the event, we'll honor the lives lost to cancer, celebrate survivors, and support the caregivers who so selflessly help others.

Together, we'll be a part of making a difference in this important cause.
