Why I Relay

Why I Relay

Cancer has affected so many people I know and love that it's inspired me to join Relay For Life. This fundraiser is a community-based event, which means no two Relays are the same, but they all support the American Cancer Society's mission.

As some may know, in January, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. It's a secondary cancer due to the radiation treatments from my first round of cancer in 2001. I had a left breast mastectomy Jan. 28th and met with an oncologist in CT. While hearing the news that I had cancer again was scary, after weeks of waiting and multiple tests, we found out that the kind of breast cancer I had was very treatable and we caught it early. I do not need chemo, the only treatment I really need was the mastectomy and I am currently taking tamoxifen for 5 years. I had a sentinel lymph node biopsy at the beginning of March, both lymph nodes that were removed were negative for cancer and they got clean margins as they were not clean after the mastectomy. I currently cancer-free and could not be happier!

I was also diagnosed at 15 months old with Ewings Sarcoma. At my side was my Aunt Laura who was also going through cancer treatments for breast cancer. I have been cancer-free for 19 years almost 20! I love everything Relay For Life does and have participated in it before.

Funds raised support cancer patient programs and groundbreaking research that can help save lives. This event also celebrates over 15.5 million cancer survivors nationwide. 15.5 MILLION. That's huge. That's why I'd love your support. Will you walk with me? And if you can't would you be so kind as to make a donation?

Thank You Donors

Cancer has touched all of us in some way. And we want to stop this disease in its tracks. We'll spend the next few weeks fundraising for the American Cancer Society. Then, on the day of the event, we'll honor the lives lost to cancer, celebrate survivors, and support the caregivers who so selflessly help others.

Together, we'll be a part of making a difference in this important cause.
