Why I'm Participatingin a Relay For life. Twenty two years ago I started taking care of a little boy by the name of Sean. He was 2 years old and had a brain tumor. At the invite of his mom, Michele. I joined their relay team to help raise funds for the American Cancer society's Relay For Life. Sean was a sweet little two year old whose tumor was growing after surgery and chemo. He was put in hospice. His family invited all the nurses to participate with them in what we thought would be Sean's last relay. As it turned out, Sean became a miracle the tumor stopped growing and he started growing. Today Sean is a handsome 24 year old. I still visit him as I retired after 50+ yrs in nursing. My first relay touched me deeply especially the beautiful meaningful luminaria ceremony. Cancer had touched my family in many ways already, three out of four of my grandparents died of cancer and a special uncle, so I felt this was a great way to give back and try to help the others. I started doing Relay on his team eventually taking over team captain when Michele was diagnosed with breast cancer and went through treatment. Unfortunatly after a 4yr battle she lost her battle. It was Michele who was there and helped me thru my battle. In 2005 I was diagnosed with colorectal cancer. This year I made 17yr survivor. Nearly everyone has been touched by cancer, either through their own personal battle or through the battle of someone they love, and this disease has taken too much from too many. I'm participating in the Relay For Life event because I know I am making a difference in the fight to end cancer by raising funds and cancer awareness. A Relay For Life event is not only a way to join my community to fight backagainst cancer, but it is also a way to inspire hope by raising funds and cancer awareness to help those facing a diagnosis like I did. My Relay family was there for me, and I will be there for others.
Why I'm Fundraising By raising funds and walking in a Relay For Life event, I am participating in the American Cancer Society's lifesaving mission, and I would really appreciate your support! The funds I raise helps fund important cancer research, supports cancer patient programs and services, and goes toward other important activities that help save lives and ease the stress from cancer. Come walk with me and help collect donations from friends and family. This year I will be Relaying in Bensalem, Englewood, Fl, Tioga/Wellsboro, Pa.
Why I Volunteer with the American Cancer Society By walking in a Relay For Life event I join more than four million global volunteers who are dedicated to finishing the fight against cancer. This is my opportunity to honor the cancer survivors in my life, remember friends and family I have lost, and to raise funds to support the American Cancer Society'slifesaving mission. For a donation of $ 100 I am doing unlimited luminaria bags for the 108 and counting people in my life who cancer has touched. What a great tribute. I invite all to come see them.
Please join my team or make a donation in support of my efforts. Thank you!

Your support allows the American Cancer Society to continue:
Fighting cancer in city halls, statehouses, and Congress by elevating the patient voice to advance policy change through the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN)
Ensuring no one feels alone at any point on their cancer journey, from prevention to survivorship, and, for some, the end of life.
Investing in breakthrough science to find more - and better - treatments, uncover factors that may cause cancer, and improve patients' quality of life.
Ensuring that all people have a fair and just opportunity to prevent, find, treat, and survive cancer. ACS and ACS CAN believe all people should have a fair and just opportunity to live a longer, healthier life free from cancer regardless of how much money they make, the color of their skin, their sexual orientation, gender identity, their disability status, or where they live.
Luminarias honor every life touched by cancer. You can dedicate them to a loved one lost, someone currently battling, or anyone who's overcome it.
Thank you for fueling the American Cancer Society's fight against cancer.
Many thanks to our generous sponsors for fueling the American Cancer Society's fight against cancer.

Cancer has touched all of us in some way. And we want to stop this disease in its tracks. We'll spend the next few weeks fundraising for the American Cancer Society. Then, on the day of the event, we'll honor the lives lost to cancer, celebrate survivors, and support the caregivers who so selflessly help others.
Together, we'll be a part of making a difference in this important cause.
