Why I Participate in a Relay For Life Event I have volunteered for the American Cancer Society since I was 7 as a general participant. Since I was 12, I have been a Team Captain and at 14 joined the Event Leadership Team. If you've read this bio before you'll remember made a goal of donating 100 inches of hair when I was 8, and I reached my goal and have donated 136 inches!! I have upped my goal to donating 200 inches of hair. In loving memory of my great-grandpa Gerrie Caines, grandma Sandra Storie, and cousin Kieth Schieron. We will all love and miss you forever. In addition, though it wasn't from cancer, I continue to relay in memory of my parents, Rick and Karen Stoker. I participate because I know that by raising funds and walking in the American Cancer Society Relay For Life event, I will help save lives from cancer. It's overwhelming to think that millions of people will be diagnosed with cancer this year. A Relay For Life event is not only a way to join my community to fight back against cancer, but it is also a way to inspire hope by raising funds and cancer awareness to help those facing the disease. Thank you to those who support something I am so passionate about. Relay participants, including me, all raise funds because we've been affected by cancer in some way and because a Relay For Life event gives us the power to fight back. This is my opportunity to honor the cancer survivors in my life, remember friends and family I have lost, and help raise funds to support the American Cancer Society's lifesaving mission. Every day, the American Cancer Society helps people take steps to reduce their risk of cancer or find it early, when it is easiest to treat. They provide free information and services( such as housing and transportation) to cancer patients throughout their journey. The organization is investing in crucial research to prevent, treat, and ultimately, cure all cancers. I have signed up to fundraise and walk in my local Relay For Life event. I hope you will consider joining my team or making a donation in support of my efforts! Again, thank you so much to my friends and family who support The American Cancer Society. |

Your support allows the American Cancer Society to continue:
Fighting cancer in city halls, statehouses, and Congress by elevating the patient voice to advance policy change through the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN)
Ensuring no one feels alone at any point on their cancer journey, from prevention to survivorship, and, for some, the end of life.
Investing in breakthrough science to find more - and better - treatments, uncover factors that may cause cancer, and improve patients' quality of life.
Ensuring that all people have a fair and just opportunity to prevent, find, treat, and survive cancer. ACS and ACS CAN believe all people should have a fair and just opportunity to live a longer, healthier life free from cancer regardless of how much money they make, the color of their skin, their sexual orientation, gender identity, their disability status, or where they live.
Luminarias honor every life touched by cancer. You can dedicate them to a loved one lost, someone currently battling, or anyone who's overcome it.
Thank you for fueling the American Cancer Society's fight against cancer.
Many thanks to our generous sponsors for fueling the American Cancer Society's fight against cancer.

This isn’t what I wanted.
Cancer has touched all of us in some way. And we want to stop this disease in its tracks. We'll spend the next few weeks fundraising for the American Cancer Society. Then, on the day of the event, we'll honor the lives lost to cancer, celebrate survivors, and support the caregivers who so selflessly help others.
Together, we'll be a part of making a difference in this important cause.
