Fundraising Honor Roll

For those who may not know my story, I lost someone very close to me last summer to a very rare autoimmune disease called HLH. Braden is my "why I relay". While my reason for becoming involved within Relay for Life may not be specifically due to cancer, Braden's battle was unique and one that I can compare to the difficulties that are faced with a cancer diagnosis.

The main treatment that was provided to Braden was chemotherapy. As a result, during his fight, much time was spent within an infusion clinic or in a hospital room recieving these treatments. I spent many infusions alongside him and his family and was able to see others going through similar infusions, or infusions that may have lasted even hours longer than the chemotherapy Braden was recieiving. Through all of this, the thing that stood out to me the most was the smile all of these patients continued to wear and the kindess they always gave to their nurses and caregivers.

I had nothing but admiration for Braden and the way he handled his battle with such strength and grace and how he held concern for others, all while he was going through the hardest time of his life. Not only do I have a new definition of strength through my experience with Braden and his presence in my life, but I also hold a new level of respect for individuals and caregivers going through situations like these.

Being given news like this that changes your life and having to decide how to best navigate it all is hard enough without having to consider the finances of your fight. No one should ever have to worry about not being able to afford a treatment that could save their life, and this is why I relay. I relay so everyone has a chance to fight with the strength that Braden did and is given the opportunity to go on to appreciate life as he would have.

Please consider donating to my page to help me support families and patients in need. Anything helps, truly!

If you are unable to donate online, please print a donation form to mail in your donation.

Cancer has touched all of us in some way. And we want to stop this disease in its tracks. We'll spend the next few weeks fundraising for the American Cancer Society. Then, on the day of the event, we'll honor the lives lost to cancer, celebrate survivors, and support the caregivers who so selflessly help others.

Together, we'll be a part of making a difference in this important cause.
