My Reason to Relay . . .
I've always walked on behalf of my family, friends, & coworkers. Then, I walked for ME. I was diagnosed with colorectal cancer on August 17, 2017, and have had a few challenging years, but am getting through it. Still have some residual issues, but I'm celebrating SURVIVORSHIP!! In 2023, however, my focus has changed again. My dearest friend, my husband Mike was hit. So, then I walked for him.
Several people have asked what they can do to help. And I totally get that. I remember those days of feeling hopeless when a friend or parent was going through this. Walking a few laps and raising funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society is one HUGE way to help. Since we've been diagnosed, I spoke with ACS a few times - getting advice on dealing with doctors and insurance to being offered some of their many free services (including free wigs, rides to treatments, 24/7 hotline, etc.). It's actually very cool getting to see ACS from 'the other side' after all these years of touting its services.
So, I hope you join me at this year's SAN PEDRO RELAY FOR LIFE.
