Cancer has hit my family hard - I was born on my grandmother’s birthday, but I never got to meet her, because she died when my dad was 14. Then, he died of cancer when I was 20. Then, I had two daughters who had cancer in their 20s, and my husband was diagnosed with 3 types of blood cancer in 2017. In addition, 6 of my 7 first cousins, and one of my brothers, have had cancer. I’ve even had a bit of skin cancer. My daughters, cousins, brother and I continue to do fine, in some cases, because of life-saving treatments that have been discovered in the last few decades. Late this summer, my husband’s multiple myeloma became active after almost 7 years of “smoldering” - thankfully, he’s getting good care, and is getting stronger all the time. Because of the impact cancer has had on my life and the lives of my family and friends, I’m doing something about it. I’ve participated in Relay For Life for 12 years to remember people we’ve lost and offer up support to anyone in our community who is affected by cancer. And that’s why I need your support! The funds I’m raising will help sustain critical research and patient services in this difficult time. Believe me, every dollar really does count, so I’m asking for your help.
