For me it all started 22yrs ago. I'm a nurse and started caring for a little boy 2 years old who had an astrocytoma of the brainstem. He had surgery and chemo but the tumor grew back with such a vengeance he had to be put in hospice. His mom invited all the nurses to join them in Relay for Life. Thinking it would be his last. I was overwhelmed by the site of all the people uniting for one cause. Walking the track was a life altering experience. Reflecting on those I knew, 3 out of 4 grandparents died of this dread disease. Many other family and even more friends and coworkers. I decided that this was my cause. In 2005 I was diagnosed and had surgery for colorectal cancer. This year I dedicated 103 luminary bags and the list keeps growing. The Lord was not ready for Sean and today he is a loving 24yr old. I still am one of his favorite nurses. Unfortunately his mom Michele lost her battle to breast cancer 9 yrs ago.. That inspired me to do more. After losing her first grandparent Pop Pop Casale, my granddaughter Alexandria decided to captian her Middle School team. She had been doing Relay with me since she was an infant. And now in HS is still supporting Relay. I am so proud of her efforts to help fight this disease . Funds raised support cancer patient programs and groundbreaking research that can help save lives. This event also celebrates over 15.5 million cancer survivors nationwide. 15.5 MILLION. That’s huge. That’s why I’d love your support. Will you walk with me? And if you can’t would you be so kind as to make a donation? Thank you Merri and Alex |

Your support allows the American Cancer Society to continue:
Fighting cancer in city halls, statehouses, and Congress by elevating the patient voice to advance policy change through the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN)
Ensuring no one feels alone at any point on their cancer journey, from prevention to survivorship, and, for some, the end of life.
Investing in breakthrough science to find more - and better - treatments, uncover factors that may cause cancer, and improve patients' quality of life.
Ensuring that all people have a fair and just opportunity to prevent, find, treat, and survive cancer. ACS and ACS CAN believe all people should have a fair and just opportunity to live a longer, healthier life free from cancer regardless of how much money they make, the color of their skin, their sexual orientation, gender identity, their disability status, or where they live.
Luminarias honor every life touched by cancer. You can dedicate them to a loved one lost, someone currently battling, or anyone who's overcome it.
Thank you for fueling the American Cancer Society's fight against cancer.
Many thanks to our generous sponsors for fueling the American Cancer Society's fight against cancer.

This isn’t what I wanted.
Cancer has touched all of us in some way. And we want to stop this disease in its tracks. We'll spend the next few weeks fundraising for the American Cancer Society. Then, on the day of the event, we'll honor the lives lost to cancer, celebrate survivors, and support the caregivers who so selflessly help others.
Together, we'll be a part of making a difference in this important cause.
