In July of 2020 I received the news that no one ever wants to hear, I had breast cancer. During my treatment and recovery, the American Cancer Society (ACS) team became near and dear to my heart, providing my family and me incredible support and resources to consider new treatment options that were available. My double mastectomy surgeon was a woman. She made an enormous impact on me during my journey. This is why I was empowered to participate in the ResearHERS campaign. It is a movement to advocate women-led cancer research and recognize female trailblazers in the field.
Everyday ACS researchers are being asked to find creative solutions to new problems, problems I never anticipated I would ever have to face. Women bring diverse and unique perspectives to cancer research, make invaluable contributions and discoveries, but are continuously underrepresented in research leadership. I want to be a part of that change!
