One of the most valuable things in life that my mother has taught me is that of  "SERVICE".Serving God, Serving your church, Serving your family, Serving your job, while all along Serving your community.  I've watched her tirelessly doing all these things for many years while being a caregiver to her sisters and brothers who have either passed away or is currently battling cancer.  This may not sound like much but did I mention that all of her siblings live 500 miles away in Connecticut. Whether it be the everyday phone calls, the planned holiday trips up there every year, or the numerous unplanned trips, she does what needs to be done to keep them comfortable and encouraged.  Having all the education and money in the world means nothing if you don't reach out and take care of your family and the people around you.  I truely believe this is her motto.

So, if she can juggle all this while working full time as an Education Professional at the University level, then I can continue the fight here on the home front.  My life has been forever changed by the loss of family members battling cancer.  I choose not to sit back and be idle.  That's why I volunteer my time, effort and money.  Having 2 of our 4 children stay overnight while we walk the track for relay is an experience I will never forget.  Thanks to them for family support.

A Relay For Life event is not only a way to join my community to fight back against cancer, but it is also a way to inspire hope by raising funds and cancer awareness to help those facing a diagnosis.
