I am a radiation oncology nurse practitioner at Henry Ford Health. I completed my nursing degrees at the University of Michigan, ultimately graduating with my Doctor of Nursing Practice in the Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program. At Henry Ford, I works with the breast, GI, and prostate services and sees patients admitted to the hospital who need radiation therapy.
I began my career in oncology on the inpatient hematology/oncology floor at Henry Ford caring for patients receiving chemotherapy, bone marrow transplants, and experiencing complications related to their cancer diagnoses. While working on the inpatient floor I developed many meaningful relationships with my patients which strengthened my passion for oncology. The experiences included celebrations, difficult conversations, nerf gun fights and silly jokes, and management of various side effects. Our patients became family members, and our time together was spent with a shared goal of survivorship. When deciding to go to graduate school, my goal was to continue supporting cancer patients, therefore participated in clinicals focused on oncology and palliative medicine, and then completed my Doctor of Nursing Practice capstone project in a head and neck cancer clinic.
I find purpose in being able to work with my patients and their families to support them through this journey, mentally and physically. I do my best to meet patients where they need and spend our time together providing education, addressing side effects and concerns developed during treatment, and supporting their mental wellbeing and transitions to the next stages of their care. The American Cancer Society is an important organization to me because of the resources they provide for patients. I reference them when obtaining additional patient materials and our teams help patients become engaged in the services ACS provided within our community. I am proud to support their efforts to ease the challenges patients face during treatment and support advancements within the oncologic research community.
