Why I Relay

Cancer affected so many people Darcy knew and loved, that is what inspired her to join Relay For Life.  After the loss of her son, Jimmy Burns in 2007, she found peace through her work with ACS, working to find a cure for the disease that tragically took her son from her and their family.  Cancer has affected Darcy's family on multiple occasions and on July 27, 2020 during a doctors visit Darcy heard the 3 words we never wanted to hear again, "You Have Cancer!"

Darcy was a fighter with a positve and happy spirit.  She had an enormous amount of love and suport from her husband Michael, family, friends and teammates. Darcy fought a brave battle to overcome this disease, but on December 18, 2020 she lost her fight. By the grace of God her husband Michael, daughter Kristy and mother Sandy were with her to hold her hand while she took her final breaths.  Darcy was an angel on this earth, making this world a better place by selflessly supporting, uplifting, empowering and loving so many people from her heart and soul.  Now she is an angel in heaven with her beloved son, Jimmy.

It is our turn now to continue Darcy's mission, to create a world that is Cancer FREE!

Funds raised support cancer patient programs and groundbreaking research that can help save lives. This event also celebrates over 15.5 million cancer survivors nationwide. 15.5 MILLION. That's huge. That's why we would love your support. Will you walk for Darcy? If you are unable, please consider making a donation.

In lieu of flowers Darcy's family asks funds be used to support the mission of the American Cancer Society, donations can be made via her dedicated page.

Cancer has touched all of us in some way. And we want to stop this disease in its tracks. We'll spend the next few weeks fundraising for the American Cancer Society. Then, on the day of the event, we'll honor the lives lost to cancer, celebrate survivors, and support the caregivers who so selflessly help others.

Together, we'll be a part of making a difference in this important cause.
