Ewok This Way
This year, we are forming a Relay for Life team to help raise money for the American Cancer Society’s support service and lifesaving research. Ben was the biggest Star Wars fan, so we chose Ewok This Way as our team name, as our way of honoring him while we walk and RELAY for LIFE! Absolutely no one deserves to suffer from the pain and agony of cancer or lose their life to this ugly disease! Our goal is a CURE! Believe us, every dollar really does count, so we're asking for your help. Please donate or join our team today, because together we can end cancer.

My name is Kristie Anderson, and my sweet husband Ben recently passed away. Relentless back pain that he thought was just “wear and tear” turned out to be the most devastating diagnosis of our lives. An MRI showed numerous lesions and a tumor on his spine. His follow up appointment with the orthopedist turned into a hospital admission and surgery to stabilize compression fractures in his back. He was immediately diagnosed with cancer. Specifically a rare adenocarcinoma of unknown primary origin, and it was already stage 4, widespread, and very aggressive. After over 2 months of hospital stays, excruciating pain, numbness and weakness in his legs, endless prayers, countless scans and labs, 3 blood transfusions, 3 rounds of chemo, 10 days of radiation therapy, and about a billion tears; it took just 91 days for my husband to die. Diagnosed by MRI results on February 28th and he took his last breath on May 28th. We had no warning. No signs or symptoms or even routine lab results that would have indicated any problems. Ben was healthy and active and never even got common colds.

Thank you for fueling the American Cancer Society's fight against cancer.
Cancer hits far too close to home, so the funds you raise will help do the same. Through services and resources like free rides to chemo, free places to stay near hospitals, and a live 24/7 helpline, cancer patients and their families will feel the love. Here’s how recent money raised has been put to incredible uses.
Since 1991 we have invested $3.43 billion in cancer research.
We have received over 360,000 calls and chats from patients and caregivers seeking support in 2023.
Cancer patients benefited from the ACS transportation support through our Road To Recovery program and transportation grants in 2023, with nearly 769,000 rides provided.
Many thanks to our generous sponsors for fueling the American Cancer Society's fight against cancer.

This isn’t what I wanted.
Cancer has touched all of us in some way. And we want to stop this disease in its tracks. We'll spend the next few weeks fundraising for the American Cancer Society. Then, on the day of the event, we'll honor the lives lost to cancer, celebrate survivors, and support the caregivers who so selflessly help others.
Together, we'll be a part of making a difference in this important cause.
