Welcome to Team Invictus! We hope each of you and your families are safe and well!

Why We Are Making Strides

It's that time of year again!

You may be thinking, election cycle, PSLs, pumpkins, Libra season, and all other "new normal" Fall traditions ... But what I mean specifically (all of the above are definitely happening) is Breast Cancer Awareness Month!

For myself, and for those of us whose lives are affected on a daily basis by Breast Cancer, I would say we are "always" fighting. However, Breast Cancer Awareness Month gives us the opportunity to make a show of force against Breast Cancer and in support of those in the throws of battle with the disease. Since March, as many of us have had to "pivot" (#buzzword), so have patients receiving breast cancer diagnoses and treatments. For the first time, cancer patients are going to treatments alone and the American Cancer Society's hotline is constantly overwhelmed by calls it receives to provide support for cancer patients looking for resources, and answer to their questions about COVID-19. As the American Cancer Society says in it's own words, "We envision a future where our children will no longer live with the threat of breast cancer. Unfortunately, that future is at risk. The impact of COVID 19 will reduce our ability to fund cancer research by 50% in 2020, our lowest investment this century if current trends continue. We can’t and won’t allow progress to be put on hold because of COVID 19. At risk are more and better treatments and discoveries that will improve and save lives."

Team Invictus was created to honor and support Anita Shangvi, who has continued to be blessed with borrowed time as she battles against Stage 4 breast cancer.

This year however, we also have the honor of fundraising in memory of Sallie Ann Haynes (November 21, 1946 - October 8, 2020). Sallie Ann was a tour de force; an accomplished actress, world traveler, avid beachgoer, animal lover, gifted gardener, phenomenal mother, philanthropist and a true ally. This month, although Sallie Ann lost her own brief but courageous battle with cancer, she inspires the rest of us to fight.

Welcome to our Team Page. We've formed a team because this cause is important to us. We want to help. And walking and raising money in our local American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event is the best way we can do that. We all have different reasons for participating but we share a determination to help save lives from breast cancer.

There are so many ways that the money our team raises helps. It’s helping fund innovative research. It's providing free information for people dealing with the disease. It’s providing rides to treatment and places to stay for people who have to seek treatment far from home. In short, our money is helping save lives. Consider donating to our team and helping advance the cause.

How We Support the American Cancer Society

Of course we walk in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event. And we solicit donations from family, friends, and other supporters. But we also schedule fundraisers in lead-up to the big event. Bake-sales, car washes, and countless other types of events. And we promote those on social media, through Facebook and Twitter, by word of mouth, and through flyers at work and around the neighborhood. The success of fundraising events depends on two things - hard work and getting the word out. And we're out to do both. Keep an eye out for our fundraising events.
