What are you most excited about being involved in the Real Men Wear Pink campaign?
Simply to be a part of this AWESOME event again this year.
Lets face it, everyone you know or even yourself has had their lives affected by cancer in some form or another. No matter what the soundboard is, when we fight against cancer, it's against all cancers. And I truly believe that what we are doing is not only making a difference, but also impacting the research to find a cure!
I am asking everyone that I know to step up and stand up for the cure to Breast Cancer and all cancer!!!
I am a proud father of two precious girls, Bella and Kira, which remind me every day about everything that I love so much about their mother. My wife is an amazing woman to say the least; I am a blessed man indeed. I grew up in Central Illinois and knew that someday I would get out of the snow ridden north, so I moved to Florida in the 90's. I soon found my way here to East TN. Other than spending time with my family, I enjoy being able to serve in my community and in my church; and on the rare occasion I love to play golf. As a young boy I always had odd jobs to support my habit of bowling, which I admit was my first love. In 1999, I finally bowled a perfect game and had my name added to the then American Bowling Congress, bowling Hall of Fame. That was truly a memorable time for me.
Most of all, I want to make sure that I am here for my family and doing everything I can to make sure that I am fighting, so someone else is able to always be there for their family as well.
After struggling to determine what I was going to do with my life, I attended a travel institute to become a travel agent, and learned quickly that my schooling without related experience equals working full time at the Amoco gas station. This led me to an Associate's Degree in applied science with a major of automotive technology… yep you guessed it I became…. an auto mechanic. After 11 years of back-breaking work and constant dirty hands, I left that world. I quickly ended up in the telecommunications industry which eventually led me into a Security/Audio/Video career.
After years of doing it all for everyone else, I felt led to start His Security. In 2010, I told Doug Fraker (my then employee) that I was leaving the company we were working for to start my own business. Two weeks later he said, “I think I want to go with you.” We were sure that we could do a better job of serving people in our local community. So as local business owners, between the two of us, we strive to make His Security the type of company that is known to respect their customers and is always known for treating people right! We truly strive to honor God in the miracle He provided us in our company.
How has cancer overall, and specifically breast cancer, impacted you or your loved ones?
For me, it was when one of my employees came to us and said his wife had breast cancer. At that time, we were a very young business, we didn't have much, and we certainly didn't have the ability to provide health insurance. So mostly all we could do was to be there and pray. After about two years she had come out the other side a survivor, and we actually had made some steady improvements in our business. Little did he know, but during that period we had gone through a very trying time in our business and were not sure we were even going to make it. My wife and I were preparing to go on a cruise given by a company vendor, but due to the coming arrival of our youngest child we couldn't go. I just knew that I needed to send my employee and his wife on this cruise. We, as owners said, we will make sure that he has a job, and by the grace of God, we were blessed and we were able to bless them. Much like everyone else, my life and loved ones have been touched by other forms of cancer as well: from skin cancer to prostate cancer, to learning my old High School best friend is fighting liver cancer and colon cancer and lost his battle August of 2018!!
The men and woman that I have met in this fight that have fought the fight and won, the ones that are still in the midst of the fight, and those that have had loved ones that have been taken too early from this horrid disease. Together we FIGHT together we SURVIVE!!!
Have you or a loved one utilized an American Cancer Society program or service?
I have had friends and family reach out to the American Cancer Society when they needed help, support or just to ask some questions. I know that the American Cancer Society was one of the main sources that my employee's wife had to rely on. It's certainly a top notch organization, serving so many people in so many different ways
