Team Shimizu
TEAM SHIMIZU
NINETEEN YEARS AGO...in 2005, BILL SHIMIZU lost a valiant fight with Multiple Myeloma. There happened to be a Relay for Life held at Santa Anita Park a few weeks after his passing. My girlfriend, Rose B. donated and decorated a luminaria bag honoring Bill's memory. Out of curiosity, I went to Santa Anita Park to see what "Relay for Life" was all about and to see the luminaria bag that honored Bill. I was so touched, that I told Rose that I wanted to join her at relay next year.
In 2006, "Team Shimizu" was established in memory of Bill and my cousin Dale who had passed away from Colon Cancer shortly after Bill. Participating in the Relay for Life gave our team and supporters a sense of purpose to fight cancer and renewed hope in defeating cancer. Team Shimizu is a group of family and friends who are personally driven to find a cure for cancer.
Sadly, in 2020 and during the pandemic, I lost my mom to Metastatic Pancreatic Cancer and my dad was diagnosed with Bladder Cancer. Dad is currently cancer-free but needs full-time care. Because of time constraints, Team Shimizu will not host a booth at the 24 hr event at Santa Anita Park. Instead, we will have two fundraisers later this year, dates TBD, otherwise all our fundraising will continue online through this website. Even though we all have our own reason for joining Relay For Life, we'll take down cancer because we're in it together. Team Shimizu is fundraising for the American Cancer Society's support service and lifesaving research. Believe us, every dollar really does count, so we're asking for your help. Please donate or join our team today, because together we can end cancer.

Thank you for fueling the American Cancer Society's fight against cancer.
Cancer hits far too close to home, so the funds you raise will help do the same. Through services and resources like free rides to chemo, free places to stay near hospitals, and a live 24/7 helpline, cancer patients and their families will feel the love. Here’s how recent money raised has been put to incredible uses.
Since 1991 we have invested $3.43 billion in cancer research.
We have received over 360,000 calls and chats from patients and caregivers seeking support in 2023.
Cancer patients benefited from the ACS transportation support through our Road To Recovery program and transportation grants in 2023, with nearly 769,000 rides provided.
Many thanks to our generous sponsors for fueling the American Cancer Society's fight against cancer.

This isn’t what I wanted.
Cancer has touched all of us in some way. And we want to stop this disease in its tracks. We'll spend the next few weeks fundraising for the American Cancer Society. Then, on the day of the event, we'll honor the lives lost to cancer, celebrate survivors, and support the caregivers who so selflessly help others.
Together, we'll be a part of making a difference in this important cause.
