Why I Support the American Cancer Society
This is the season to be thankful. For me, it starts with family (all healthy), my personal health (more in a bit), friends (all of you!), and the incredible fundraising opportunity that is the Pan Ohio Hope Ride.
My 2024 POHR ride ended on day 1 with a bad fall, and although my (7) bones have healed, I still have a bit to go to feel comfortable riding again. It’s been a long 4 months that included a hospital stay (7 days), inpatient rehab (11 days), doctor appointments, and lots of physical therapy that should end in late December. I pushed myself hard to get back on my feet as quickly as possible, and feel good about my progress. So good, in fact, that I signed up for POHR 2025! Everyone needs a goal, and for me it’s the determination to complete this ride once again!
This was the 2nd year in a row I trained hard for this fundraiser ride, only to end in the disappointment of not making it to the finish line. I was not disappointed, however, in my fundraising efforts this year, which once again put me in the $5,000+ club and contributed to beating our event goal of $1,000,000! What better way to give thanks during this holiday weekend than to get started a bit earlier than normal on fundraising for POHR ’25.
I would greatly appreciate your support this year, as 100% of the proceeds from the Pan Ohio Hope Ride will again go directly to the American Cancer Society Cleveland Hope Lodge, to fund their ongoing expansion. You can read about the amazing benefits provided by the Hope Lodge to families of local cancer patients at https://www.cancer.org/treatment/support-programs-and-services/patient-lodging/hope-lodge/cleveland/about-our-facility.html, and feel free to schedule a visit to see for yourself the impact of the Hope Lodge.
I look forward to staying in touch with you during the months leading up to POHR ’25. You can expect I will log plenty of miles on my spin bike during the winter, with many more outdoor miles when the weather improves in the spring and summer. I am excited for the challenge ahead, both physically and as a fundraiser!
