When I was 5, my dad died of leukemia. As an adult, I lost my grandmother to colon cancer. Last year, I lost my beloved uncle to pancreatic cancer. Most significant perhaps of all, I have lost three friends, all in their 30s to various types of cancer, proving just like my dad, cancer doesn’t discriminate a young life. I’ve attended their funerals and seen myself in their children, knowing they have to grow up without a parent because of this cruel, incurable disease.
This will be my fourth year completing an endurance event while raising money for ACS. In 2022, I raised more than $35,000 trekking the Camino de Santiago in Spain. In 2023, I raised nearly $15,000 riding RAGBRAI (pan-Iowa). It was significant for me as it was across my home state, but it was also the one I had said yes to riding with my friend and colleague, Naomi Stutzman, the summer before pancreatic cancer took her way too soon. Last year was my inaugural Pan-Ohio Hope Ride which starts in Cleveland, my dad’s hometown and the place where he passed from cancer. I’m thrilled to ride Ohio again with this amazing group.
My fundraising goal this year is $20,000. I don’t believe in doing small things, and I hope you’ll help me achieve this audacious goal. One thing I’ve learned: too many of us are members in an undesirable society of grief having said goodbye to our mothers, fathers, children, partners, and friends too soon because of this disease. Please join me in my fundraising goal which will support critical research in an effort to find a cure.
I'm supporting the American Cancer Society and you can, too!

Health Equity
Ensuring that all people have a fair and just opportunity to prevent, find, treat, and survive cancer. ACS and ACS CAN believe all people should have a fair and just opportunity to live a longer, healthier life free from cancer regardless of how much money they make, the color of their skin, their sexual orientation, gender identity, their disability status, or where they live.
