Bank of America Chicago Marathon 2021

Sole Sistas

Welcome to Team Sole Sistas: Two sisters (Jenny and Jaime) committed to running the Chicago Marathon and raising money in support of our incredible mom and the many others touched by cancer.

In early May our mom was diagnosed with Stage IV gallbladder cancer.  It is a rare and, unfortunately, often silent form of this devastating disease.   She had almost no symptoms and by the time she discovered her illness, the cancer had metastasized to nearby organs and glands.  She is inoperable and, at this time, they do not believe she can achieve remission.   After the shock of this devastating prognosis, our mom's first instinct was not hopelessness and resignation.   Our mom is far too tenacious, determined and pragmatic for that.  After doing her research and consulting with multiple physicians, she located a promising clinical trial that will hopefully help her and will surely help others in the future.   Our mom does not ask, "Why me?" She does not wallow in despair.   Our mom is AMAZING.  She picks herself up and finds ways to tackle the challenges she faces. She knows that victory is always possible for someone who refuses to stop fighting.

A marathon, 26.2 miles, is a long way to go, but it is nothing compared to what our mom is going through and the battles many others are waging against this terrible disease.  We will complete the marathon and the many training runs leading to it with our mom on our minds and in our hearts.

Please consider donating to our team and becoming a part of the army standing up in the campaign against cancer.  Help us show our mom and other cancer patients that they are not alone in this fight. Together, we'll be a part of making a difference and stopping this disease in its tracks.

Cancer has touched all of us in some way. And we want to stop this disease in its tracks. We'll spend the next few weeks fundraising for the American Cancer Society. Then, on the day of the event, we'll honor the lives lost to cancer, celebrate survivors, and support the caregivers who so selflessly help others.

Together, we'll be a part of making a difference in this important cause.
