Big Sur International Marathon
Miles for Mom
This April, we’ll be running the Big Sur International Marathon to raise funds for the American Cancer Society in honor of our mom/sister, Lisa Kolb Dennison.
For those who don’t know our story, Lisa lost her battle to Stage IV Colorectal Cancer in 2006 leaving behind her 7 year old triplets, her husband David, and so many other family members & dear friends.
Any way to help with all things cancer has been close to our hearts, so when we heard about running Big Sur through the ACS, the daunting feat of running a (very) hilly & windy 26.2 miles up Highway 1 quickly became a no-brainer. Lisa was luckier than most and got to call Carmel home. The final mile of the race just so happens to run through her childhood neighborhood and overlooks our family’s favorite place (aptly nicknamed “Reading Rock”). And the cherry on top to all of this is that the marathon takes place on her birthday. Like we said, this was undoubtedly a no-brainer.
Whether we like it or not, we unfortunately live in a world where everyone is touched by cancer in some way. In the U.S., 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. The ACS is a leader in the cancer non-profit world with a vision to end cancer as we know it, for everyone. The funds raised will go directly to the ACS for advocacy, research, and patient support, ensuring that everyone has an opportunity to prevent, detect, treat, and survive cancer. We hope you’ll consider donating in honor of those who have bravely fought this disease, as well as those caregivers who so selflessly help others. No donation is too small. :)
See you at mile 25, Mom!
