Team Shea Shea
Hi loved ones, Thank you for taking the time to visit Team Shea Shea’s page. On Christmas Eve 2023, my friend Shea was given a diagnosis that no toddler should receive- leukemia. This blindsided her family and our community deeply (as any childhood cancer diagnosis usually does). I met Shea’s mother, Sophia, through my partner Jess. Jess and Sophia were doulas together, became perinatal nurses together, and through birth work have supported many families entering new parenthood. Only a few short weeks after Sophia delivered Shea’s younger sister, Tully, the family went from adjusting to postpartum to adjusting to cancer treatments and discussions of prognosis. The good news is that Shea’s prognosis is optimistic. She’ll be okay - but only after a couple more years of treatment, chemo, and medical management. Thankfully for cancer research, such as the research provided by the American Cancer Society, Shea’s story will soon become one of triumph rather than tragedy. It is devastating to think of what her story would be if not for cancer research and innovations. Shea is funny. She has a chiclet filled smile that lights up the room. She likes horses (“neigh neighs”), peek a boo, and father-daughter conferences before bedtime. I am so grateful to know I’ll know her for decades to come. Please support me in supporting more futures and positive outcomes by donating to my fundraising efforts for the American Cancer Society. All donations will continue to help fund innovative research, free information for families navigating cancer, and treatment for patients just like Shea. I look forward to showing up for Shea, your donations, and families with cancer diagnoses at the Big Sur Marathon on April 28th 2024.
