Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend
Once Upon a Tom
We've formed this team to honor the legacy of our Father and Uncle Tom. He was a lifelong runner, but unfortunately passed due to Mesothelioma in August 2023.
Besides being the funniest member of our family…in his 78 years, Tom ran 4 marathons, raised 5 kids, served in the US Navy for 32 years, was grandpa to 9 grandchildren, and lived all over the world. He lost his life due to asbestos exposure while serving our country and will always be our hero Uncle Tom was an impressive endurance athlete before cancer attacked his lungs. Growing up, Tom set an amazing example for us of dedication and work ethic. He inspired us all to be strong, fierce athletes and was at every race/event cheering us on. Seeing Tom fight for every breath at the end of his life has filled us with gratitude for our own healthy lungs and inspired us to run Disney in his honor. Tom used to take us to Disney multiple times a year — pushing our strollers around, lifting us onto his shoulders to watch the fireworks, and waiting patiently in every line with us. The park holds a lot of magical childhood memories that we made with our Uncle, so there’s no better place for us to run in his name to fund Cancer research
The money our team raises helps the American Cancer Society in so many ways. It’s helping fund innovative research. It’s providing free information for people dealing with the disease. It’s providing rides to treatment and places to stay for people who have to seek treatment far from home. In short, our money is helping save lives. Consider donating to our team and helping advance the cause.
