Making Strides of Sacramento

Kristi's Crew to Kick Cancer

Welcome to Kristi\'s Crew to Kick Cancer\'s team page.

I met Kristi Morris while attending an American Cancer Socity makeup class in August of last year.  We instantly bonded over our similar backgrounds and cancer diagnoses.  We both were diagnosed with breast cancer. Kristi was diagnosed June 1, 2018 with Triple Negative Breast Cancer that had spread to her lymph nodes.  I was diagnosed May 23, 2018 with Hormone Positive Breast Cancer that had also spread to my lymph nodes.  Neither of us had any family history of this disease and we were both nurses.  Kristi was diagnosed still in her 30s and I was in my 40s.  During this makeup class, designed to help those going throuh chemotherapy cope with the affects of losing our hair, we became instant friends.  In October 2018, Kristi invited me 3 days before the event to form a team of two for the Making Strides For Breast Cancer walk.  I joined her team she named \"Pink Power Pack\" but unfortunately, she became very ill from chemotherapy and wasn\'t able to actually participate in the walk.  We were hoping to go together this year.

Heartbreakingly, Kristi\'s cancer spread rapidly despite chemotherapy and at the beginning of this year cancer spread to her brain.  She passed away in March surrounded by her loving family and friends.  Kristi fought valiantly until the end and never lost her courage, sense of humor, or compassion.  Even when she was faced with the news that her cancer was terminal she still thought to ask about my welfare.

I am forming this team in honor of Kristi Morris.  I\'ve formed this team because this cause is important to us to beat this disease.  We seek to find the cure so that girls like Kristi Morris aren\'t taken from us far too soon.  I know if she could, she would be there helping lead this team to help others diagnosed with breast cancer.

And walking and raising money in our local American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event is the best way we can do that.

There are so many ways that the money our team raises helps. It\'s helping fund innovative research. It\'s providing free information for people dealing with the disease. It\'s providing rides to treatment and places to stay for people who have to seek treatment far from home. In short, our money is helping save lives. Consider donating to our team and helping advance the cause.

How We Support the American Cancer Society

Of course we walk in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event. And we solicit donations from family, friends, and other supporters. But we also schedule fundraisers in lead-up to the big event. Bake-sales, car washes, and countless other types of events. And we promote those on social media, through Facebook and Twitter, by word of mouth, and through flyers at work and around the neighborhood. The success of fundraising events depends on two things - hard work and getting the word out. And we're out to do both. Keep an eye out for our fundraising events.
