Making Strides of Long Island

Team Patty McD

My family and I are joining Making Strides Against Breast Cancer to honor my Mom, Patty. In 2007, my Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. My sisters and I were young at this time,  and she decided she was going to beat breast cancer to watch us grow up, get married, have kids, and live great lives together.  She went through chemo treatments that made her feel very sick and she lost her hair, but she kept the positive attitude that she's always had. She even laughed about her wig falling off in front of our little cousin and still tells this story today! I was so proud to see my Mom fight like that and she did beat breast cancer. She was cancer-free for 5 years, which was a big milestone that we celebrated as a family. Then, in 2013 my Mom was diagnosed with bone cancer. That was a shock to all of us. The doctors said that bone cancer cannot be removed, but my Mom did not let this get her down. She got multiple opinions from doctors in New York City and Boston and started treatment medications. My Mom is kicking cancer's ass and I cannot even begin to explain how inspirational she is to my family and me. She exercises almost every day -  going on hikes with us or friends, taking Bear (our dog) to the beach, skiing, going on the treadmill, etc. - and she lives life to the fullest. She never complains about her situation. Instead, she teaches us to make the most of every day and look at the good in life.

Any and all donations are greatly appreciated. The funds I'm raising will sustain critical research and provide services for people trying to cope with their breast cancer experience. Together, we can make a big difference in the fight against breast cancer. Thank you all very much.

Welcome to our Team Page. We've formed a team because this cause is important to us. We want to help. And walking and raising money in our local American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event is the best way we can do that. We all have different reasons for participating but we share a determination to help save lives from breast cancer.

There are so many ways that the money our team raises helps. It’s helping fund innovative research. It's providing free information for people dealing with the disease. It’s providing rides to treatment and places to stay for people who have to seek treatment far from home. In short, our money is helping save lives. Consider donating to our team and helping advance the cause.

How We Support the American Cancer Society

Of course we walk in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event. And we solicit donations from family, friends, and other supporters. But we also schedule fundraisers in lead-up to the big event. Bake-sales, car washes, and countless other types of events. And we promote those on social media, through Facebook and Twitter, by word of mouth, and through flyers at work and around the neighborhood. The success of fundraising events depends on two things - hard work and getting the word out. And we're out to do both. Keep an eye out for our fundraising events.
