FIRED UP for a CURE is an initiative under the FDNY Foundation that was founded by the case managers of the FDNY World Trade Center (WTC) Cancer Care program who wanted to create a place with activities and support services that would cater to the specific needs of the uniformed members.
In conjunction with the Family Assistance Unit, FIRED UP for a CURE addresses the health, social, recreational, and logistical needs of the FDNY’s Fire & EMS population (Active and Retired Members) and their families across the state of New York. FIRED UP for a CURE’s mission is to foster a commitment to our first responders diagnosed with cancer and other related WTC illnesses that will promote maintenance of a healthy lifestyle while maximizing their quality of life. We are committed to growing and adapting our mission to meet the emerging needs of our members.
Program objectives under FIRED UP for a CURE includes: ensuring that our members have transport services available to them, allowing them a stress free commute to and from treatments; providing eligible families with cash assistance when they are displaced due to natural disasters, critical physical emergencies, health crises and/or pandemics; scholarship assistance for minor children of first responders who succumb to illness or death as a direct result of response in their line of duty; and creating a support system for the widows and families ensuring they do not go through their experience alone, but with life-long connections and lasting support. In collaboration with the FDNY Counseling Service Unit (CSU), our families are offered additional psychological support such as: grief awareness initiatives, resources, and incentives. We serve to offer caring advocacy and connection through the entire grieving process. All our programs are based on the concept of community-based support. The number of program participants enrolled in our World Trade Center Cancer Care Program has rapidly grown and nearly doubled since 2015. Unfortunately, the number of participants is expected to double again over the next two decades. The organizations benefitting from our fundraising efforts play a vital role in the lives of our first responders. Each organization has a direct impact on the quality of life for our ill members. Proceeds from all our fundraising efforts benefit the following five organizations: FDNY Family Assistance Unit (FAU), FDNY Fire Family Transport Foundation, The Ray Pfeifer Foundation, Fight for Firefighters and The American Cancer Society Hope Lodge.

Thank you for fueling the American Cancer Society's fight against cancer.
Cancer hits far too close to home, so the funds you raise will help do the same. Through services and resources like free rides to chemo, free places to stay near hospitals, and a live 24/7 helpline, cancer patients and their families will feel the love. Here’s how recent money raised has been put to incredible uses.
As of January 2022, we have invested $71 M for potentially lifesaving breast cancer specific research grants.
We have received over 250,000 calls and chats from patients and caregivers seeking support in 2021
Cancer patients benefited from ACS transportation support through our Road TO Recovery program and transportation grants in 2021, with nearly 229,000 rides provided.
Many thanks to our generous sponsors for fueling the American Cancer Society's fight against breast cancer.

Welcome to our Team Page. We've formed a team because this cause is important to us. We want to help. And walking and raising money in our local American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event is the best way we can do that. We all have different reasons for participating but we share a determination to help save lives from breast cancer.
There are so many ways that the money our team raises helps. It’s helping fund innovative research. It's providing free information for people dealing with the disease. It’s providing rides to treatment and places to stay for people who have to seek treatment far from home. In short, our money is helping save lives. Consider donating to our team and helping advance the cause.
How We Support the American Cancer Society
Of course we walk in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event. And we solicit donations from family, friends, and other supporters. But we also schedule fundraisers in lead-up to the big event. Bake-sales, car washes, and countless other types of events. And we promote those on social media, through Facebook and Twitter, by word of mouth, and through flyers at work and around the neighborhood. The success of fundraising events depends on two things - hard work and getting the word out. And we're out to do both. Keep an eye out for our fundraising events.
