I was diagnosed with Invasive Pleomorphic Lobular Carcinoma ER+ PR+ HER2- at the age of 37. I have no known family history of breast cancer, but since I was diagnosed under age 40, I got genetic testing which showed I have the BRCA2 gene mutation. BTW this gene mutation was discovered by ACS-funded researcher Dr. Mary Claire King. Raising money for The American Cancer Society is a personal passion because I know that cancer research will help build cancer prevention it is important that we fund the researchers that will find a cure and end breast cancer. Knowing that Black people have a disproportionate cancer burden and the highest mortality rates of any racial/ethnic group for most cancers. And that as a Black woman, I was 41% more likely to die from breast cancer, than a White woman despite similar or lower incidence rates. It’s important to note that the health equity work ACS does is so very necessary because everyone should be able to survive a cancer diagnosis, no matter their skin color. The funds I'm raising will sustain critical research and provide services for people trying to cope with their breast cancer experience. Believe me, every dollar does count, so I'm asking you to please donate today. Together, we can make a big difference in the fight against breast cancer.
