Making Strides of the Triangle
Nancy's Nineteen
It's Nancy's Ninteen golden anniversary... we're back for our nineteenth year of Making Strides Against Breast Cancer! While it's hard to believe it's been that long, we are so grateful to be able to continue raising money to support breast cancer research and programs for breast cancer patients and survivors. This year, we'll be doing an extra fundraising push and welcoming special participants, including Nancy's dear friend Betty, to walk with us in Durham, NC. We started doing this walk in Ann Arbor, Michigan just as Nancy was starting her journey with breast cancer. We chose the name Nancy's Nineteen because well, aliteration! And we hoped to get 19 walkers to join us. We ended up with more than 19 and even more supporters than we could have imagined, which was incredible! While she was never physically able to do the walk with us, our first two years Nancy was out there supporting us with a big smile on her face--her story was even featured in the local newspaper with pictures of our team! Our beautiful Nancy passed away from breast cancer in December 2006. She battled the disease with grace for about a year and a half, always with her head held high. Her loss is felt every single day by the many, many people who loved her. Please consider donating to support the American Cancer Society in memory of Nancy Walens. We've set our donation goal at $3,000 and hope to garner support from at least 19 donors to make this another powerful fundraising year for our team!
