Strides RewardsKim's boob crew
I’ve always been a healthy, active person. I get my yearly mammograms and see my OBGYN annually. My most recent mammogram was on 11/1/2023. I found a lump, three months later, on 2/3/2024. I didn’t think much of it since I had gotten a good report from my mammogram. I saw my doctor on 2/12/2024. I figured it was just a cyst, but better to be safe than sorry. Things moved pretty quickly. I went from her office to the breast center for an ultrasound. Several suspicious areas were found. I had biopsies on 2/14/2024 and received the results on 2/16/2024. I had 2 different types of breast cancer. So many emotions ran through my mind. How can this be? I’ve done everything right. I don’t want to die, my family needs me. The next month was filled with doctors appointments, scans, MRI, genetic testing and lab work. According to all the test results, the cancer was only in my left breast. This was great news, cancer had not spread. Now, the priority became, get the cancer out. We did our research on surgeons and chose a private hospital in New Orleans. I had a double mastectomy on 4/29/2024. Unfortunately, during surgery, my surgeon found that cancer had spread. Again, another huge blow, stage 3 breast cancer. How did all these test miss that? Once again, we were devastated. I had another surgery on 5/22/2024 to remove nipple/skin to get clearer margins. We met with my oncology team and my only option is chemotherapy and radiation. My body had to heal from surgery so my first chemo was on 6/24/2024. I am half way through chemo then I’ll have radiation. I will have another surgery, in New Orleans, after all my treatments are complete. I still have a long road, but I will not stop fighting! I've joined Making Strides Against Breast Cancer to raise awareness. Mammograms and other test are good, but, as in my case, they miss things. My surgeon estimates that I’ve had cancer from 2-5 years. Be your own advocate. If something doesn’t feel right, fight for more tests. If they say you have dense breast tissue, fight for more tests. Do self exams! I’ve also joined to raise money. The funds I'm raising will sustain critical research and provide services for people trying to cope with their breast cancer experience. Believe me, every dollar really does count, so I'm asking you to please donate today. I had to stay in New Orleans for a week after my surgery. Kevin and I were fortunate to be able to stay at Hope Lodge. This facility is run by The American Cancer Society and provides free lodging for cancer patients. We met some great people with incredible stories of perseverance and survival. Some people had been living there for months, while undergoing treatment. It is such a relief to not worry about the expense of lodging. As devastating as my diagnosis has been, my family is my rock! We have all cried, been angry and laughed, but mostly we have become even closer. Every challenge has a silver lining, and for us, it has made our bond even stronger!💕

Cancer hits far too close to home, so the funds you raise will help do the same. Through services and resources like free rides to chemo, free places to stay near hospitals, and a live 24/7 helpline, cancer patients and their families will feel the love. Here’s how recent money raised has been put to incredible uses.
As of January 2022, we have invested $71 M for potentially lifesaving breast cancer specific research grants.
We have received over 250,000 calls and chats from patients and caregivers seeking support in 2021
Cancer patients benefited from ACS transportation support through our Road TO Recovery program and transportation grants in 2021, with nearly 229,000 rides provided.
Many thanks to our generous sponsors for fueling the American Cancer Society's fight against breast cancer.

Strides RewardsThis isn’t what I wanted.
Welcome to our Team Page. We've formed a team because this cause is important to us. We want to help. And walking and raising money in our local American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event is the best way we can do that. We all have different reasons for participating but we share a determination to help save lives from breast cancer.
There are so many ways that the money our team raises helps. It’s helping fund innovative research. It's providing free information for people dealing with the disease. It’s providing rides to treatment and places to stay for people who have to seek treatment far from home. In short, our money is helping save lives. Consider donating to our team and helping advance the cause.
How We Support the American Cancer Society
Of course we walk in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event. And we solicit donations from family, friends, and other supporters. But we also schedule fundraisers in lead-up to the big event. Bake-sales, car washes, and countless other types of events. And we promote those on social media, through Facebook and Twitter, by word of mouth, and through flyers at work and around the neighborhood. The success of fundraising events depends on two things - hard work and getting the word out. And we're out to do both. Keep an eye out for our fundraising events.
