Braulty's Cancer Crushers

How We Relay

Cancer has touched all of us in some way. And we want to stop this disease in its tracks. We’ll spend the next few weeks fundraising for the American Cancer Society. Then, on the day of the event, we’ll honor the lives lost to cancer, celebrate survivors, and support the caregivers who so selflessly help others.

Together, we’ll be a part of making a difference in this important cause.

WHY ARE WE BRAULTY'S CANCER CRUSHERS?

Cancer has touched our family in many ways over the years.  But nothing prepares you to hear these dreaded words, "Your child has cancer."  On February 21, 2018 we thought our world was crashing down.  Hearing those words was the most heart wrenching thing my husband and I could ever imagined.  Fast forward a little bit.  Carson was VERY LUCKY!  His cancer WAS Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.  (Formal name:  Nodular Lymphocytic Predominant Hodgkin Lymphoma of the lymph nodes of neck.)  He had a very visible lump on his neck, just under is jaw area.  It literally stuck out!  They removed the lymph node through surgery on February 14, 2018.  It was a very delicate surgery due to the fact that some nerves were wrapped around the lump.  The surgeon did a fantastic job!  He was successful at removing all of the lymph node which we did not find out until our trip to Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee.  We found out it was cancer on February 21, 2018 and then the following Monday after a PET Scan and finally a visit with his Oncologist, we received the wonderful news that they did NOT find any more cancer in his body!  Carson did not need chemo or radiation like we thought was going to happen.  We were so relieved, happy and ecstatic!  All the fear, tears and heart ache were lifted………for the most part.  There is still some fear every time we go back to Children’s for a checkup.  Every time he gets sick with flu or even a cold.  As a parent, you worry.  Even after a year of all good reports, we still worry.  We have to place our fears at the feet of Jesus.  Our faith is bigger than our fears!  We are so thankful and happy to say Carson is a SURGICAL CURE!  Which means, the course of treatment was the surgery.  So many others don’t get the same results.

We're happy to report, since I wrote this for the last relay, Carson is 18 months PLUS! CANCER FREE!!!!!

Last time we walked in honor of my Dad, Carson's Grandpa.  This year, we will walk in loving memory of him.  Dad passed away on the evening of August 16, 2019 with his loving wife of 53 years, children and much of the rest of the inlaws and grandkids around him.  He is now at peace with our Lord, resting in the arms of Jesus.  Free from earthly pain and free from CANCER.  We are CERTAIN the reunion in heaven was wonderful, even though are hearts are hurting here on earth.  He was such a wonderful Dad, Grandpa, friend, FARMER, listener, advice giver.....I could go on and on.

Two weeks before we found out about Carson’s cancer, we learned my Dad had brain cancer.  One year before that my Dad fought and won against lung cancer with chemo, radiation and the grace of God!  God will not give you anymore than you can handle.  That’s what I’ve been taught my whole life.  It was truly a test of faith.  Together we'll continue to fight the good fight and support all cancer survivors, caregivers and researchI.

For I know the plans I have for you “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.  Jeremiah 29:11

Cancer has affected so many people we know so, this inspired us to join Relay For Life. This fundraiser is a community-based event, which means no two Relays are the same, but they all support the American Cancer Society\\\\'s mission.

Funds raised support cancer patient programs and groundbreaking research that can help save lives. This event also celebrates over 15.5 million cancer survivors nationwide. 15.5 MILLION. That's huge. That\\\\'s why We\\\\'d love your support. Will you walk with us? And if you can\\\\'t would you be so kind as to make a donation?
