Relay For Life of Blue Earth County

LCWM Knights

The LCWM Knights fight to Honor, Support and Remember those who have battled this disease.  During the next few months our team will be raising money to support cancer research and those battling cancer.  To put things into perspective:  $100.00 helps provide (6) rides to and from chemotherapy for patients receiving treatment OR provides (1) night of free lodging in one of the many Hope Lodges around the country (these are just a few of the examples of how donations are used).

This year marks the 25th Anniversary for the Relay For Life.  On September 25th, the Luminarias will be setup and lit at the elementary school in Lake Crystal for the public to view.  This is an awesome opportunity for our community to show support for our loved ones.  Please consider donating on this page or purchasing luminarias.  All luminarias purchased online will be created by volunteers (you just need to type in the information you want to be included on the bag).  The bags are $10.00 each and you can purchase as many as you would like.  Our goal is to get 3,000 bags between all the Relay teams to light up our communities!  Bags can also be purchased in-person and decorated by you! (Please contact Shawn at slee@isd2071.k12.mn.us)

To all the staff, students, community members, friends and loved ones who have looked cancer in the face and not backed down.

In loving memory of our fellow coworker and friend, Tracy Schmidt.  Your positivity and light will always shine for all to see.

In loving memory of Alisa Nase.  Your courageous battle will not be forgotten.

Tiana Iverson's Journey:

In December 2019, I was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, a form of breast cancer. I had a fairly large tumor in my left breast and it had spread to a lymph node in my armpit. Things moved very quickly at this point and after all of my scans, biopsies, clip placements, initial meetings with doctors, and port placement, it was determined that chemotherapy needed to start right away.  Chemo needed to come before surgery due to the size of the tumor. It was also determined that my cancer was HER2 positive which meant additional targeted therapy. On December 23, 2019, I started chemo. I started with the most aggressive chemotherapy drugs and did 4 rounds of those every other week for 8 weeks. I then started a new chemo drug and did 12 weekly rounds of that. I also started 2 other chemo/targeted therapy drugs that are done once every 3 weeks. Those will continue until February 2021. Surgery is now scheduled for June 9th when I will be having a bilateral (double) mastectomy with reconstruction. I will have 2-4 additional minor surgeries after the initial surgery to make adjustments as needed. We continue to be loved so much throughout this journey and for that we are so thankful!

Cancer has touched all of us in some way. And we want to stop this disease in its tracks. We'll spend the next few weeks fundraising for the American Cancer Society. Then, on the day of the event, we'll honor the lives lost to cancer, celebrate survivors, and support the caregivers who so selflessly help others.

Together, we'll be a part of making a difference in this important cause.
