WHY WE RELAY

Team TKO is made up of survivors and those whose lives have been touched in some way by cancer.  It was born out of the desire of Marie Palmer, who was stricken with cancer twenty plus years ago. Marie became a part of Relay for Life of Dekalb to bring awareness and support to those battling cancer; celebrate life in the face of cancer; and raise funds for research to cure cancer.

Cancer invades one's life without permission, notice or consideration. It wages a campaign of destruction of body, mind and spirit. The disease is real and the need for a cure is real. Because of her passion and belief there will one day be a CURE, Marie became an advocate in the community and lead the team to successfully reaching its' team goals.

With the help of her co-captain, Lula Bullard, Marie supported and orchestrated the success of TKO's 2018 relay while undergoing treatment for a recurrence of her cancer. She took her last survivor lap on April 27, 2018. Marie succumbed to her cancer in June 2018, at Emory University.

This year Lula, a ten years survivor, assumes the position of captain. Team TKO will remain a vibrant fund raiser and supporter of The American Cancer Society and Relay for Life. With the support and prayers of the Palmer Family, friends and family, and other supporters; Team TKO looks forward to continuing the legacy of Marie Palmer.

Cancer has touched all of us in some way. And we want to stop this disease in its tracks. We'll spend the next few weeks fundraising for the American Cancer Society. Then, on the day of the event, we'll honor the lives lost to cancer, celebrate survivors, and support the caregivers who so selflessly help others.

Together, we'll be a part of making a difference in this important cause.
