We are Stronger Together

Team We are Stronger Together is fundraising for the American Cancer Society in honor of those we’ve lost to cancer, those who are battling cancer and those who have survived cancer. As someone who was only diagnosed with breast cancer just a little over a year ago, the question that has continuously popped in my head has been: why me? What did I do to deserve this? Will I get through this? How am I going to get through this? Although I have only recently been declared “cancer free,” I oftentimes wonder why am I one of the “lucky ones?” Going through chemo was one of the most challenging aspects of this entire journey. I was oftentimes reminded by my health care team that my treatment plan was so aggressive because the goal has always been “curative.” If I had a genie, I would wish cancer didn’t exist. As much as I wish cancer wasn’t a thing, all I can do now is move forward and try to make a difference in the experience of others. In my own journey, I was constantly reminded that I wasn’t alone. From text messages, to dms in instagram, to people stopping me after school to pray for me or give me spf to help with my skin sensitivity, to a complete stranger stopping me at chick-fil-a to pray for me, to my friends sending me groceries and my colleagues and students sending me DoorDash gift cards. And one of the most impactful memories I have is attending my first relay for life event last year, feeling run down in between chemo cycles but mustering enough energy to show up, walk a few laps and get stopped by the most incredible woman. This woman didn’t know me but she saw me. I mean she really saw me, she saw through my smile, saw through me trying to put on a strong face and stopped my husband and I to pray for us, for our children, for me and reminded me that I am not alone, I’m never alone. This is why our team is fundraising this year. So that others don’t feel alone in their fight and to know they have a whole community behind them. You are not alone and we are STRONGER TOGETHER!

How Fundraising Impacts Your Community

Cancer hits far too close to home, so the funds you raise will help do the same. Through services and resources like free rides to chemo, free places to stay near hospitals, and a live 24/7 helpline, cancer patients and their families will feel the love. Here’s how recent money raised has been put to incredible uses.

Since 1991 we have invested $3.43 billion in cancer research.

We have received over 360,000 calls and chats from patients and caregivers seeking support in 2023.

Cancer patients benefited from the ACS transportation support through our Road To Recovery program and transportation grants in 2023, with nearly 769,000 rides provided.

Cancer has touched all of us in some way. And we want to stop this disease in its tracks. We'll spend the next few weeks fundraising for the American Cancer Society. Then, on the day of the event, we'll honor the lives lost to cancer, celebrate survivors, and support the caregivers who so selflessly help others.

Together, we'll be a part of making a difference in this important cause.
