How We Relay Cancer is in all our lives, either we experience it firsthand or we witness the battle our loved ones go through. On Saturday October 21st, we’ll gather together to honor the lives lost to cancer, and to celebrate survivors and caregivers. It's a day of raising awareness and building community so no one has to go through cancer alone. What happens on the day of the event? Well, for starters, a whole load of spooktacular Halloween fun! Relay For Life is a walking relay, and the theme this year is Halloween so expect to see ghouls and ghosts, and maybe some zombies lurching around the track. Our goal is to always have at least one team member strolling around the course.. any speed and mode is fine: ambling, dawdling, skipping, crawling, sprinting, rolling, they are all glorious! The event kicks off at 10am with an opening lap dedicated to cancer survivors followed by a full day of fun with music, activities, food trucks and shopping to keep us all going. When we're not visiting other teams' booths, Britpack and Friends will be hosting a pop-up art gallery where people can view paintings created at a weekly art therapy night. To raise funds we'll be selling the paintings in the gallery as well as online digital prints. You can come for the whole day or just a short visit. Either way we're excited to see you 😀 As the sun goes down, candlelit luminaria bags decorated for people we cherish are set out around the track so that their name may burn bright in the dark. We close Relay at 9pm, with a special luminaria ceremony to remember those who have lost their lives to cancer.
