Sammy And Ang's Bullfighters

This is my survivor speech from June of 2019:

I wasn't quite sure where to start with my speech, so I decided to start at the beginning. I turned 40 in April of 2017 and scheduled my first mammogram. I received a call from my doctor's office saying that they saw something and I needed another mammogram.....they explained that I should not worry because this happens often and it is usually nothing. I scheduled my second mammogram and that is the day that my life changed. After my second mammogram the doctor came in and told me that I had breast cancer. In all honesty a lot is foggy that day after that. I was petrified. They then scheduled biopsies to confirm everything and my journey began.

I met with my surgeon first and she gave me my pathology report and my treatment plan. She explained that their recommendation was to complete chemotherapy first, then have surgery, and then radiation. And that is just what I did. I can not say that I wasn't scared, because I was, but at that first appointment I made up my mind that I was going to be positive and I was going to win this fight. I then told my husband that I only wanted to talk to people that were positive....and I refused to talk to anyone that wasn't. Please dont think that I am stupid, I know what cancer can do, and I knew that the journey was not going to be an easy one, but I was prepared to take the journey and be as positive as possible. With that being said, I need to publically thank everyone that supported me through my journey. I had and continue to have the best family and friends anyone could ever ask for. Just look around here today.....many of them are here and there are a lot that couldn't be here. There are far too many people to mention by name....so I will thank all members of the Lazzaro, McNulty, Vincent and Legault families....and I would also like to thank my Heatly family. There are a few people that I would like to specifically thank.... my parents, Nancy and Mike McNulty, my father in law, Gerry Legault and my Mother in law, Jean Legault who I know was watching over me from above. I would also like to say that I would have never been able to get through this without the support if my kids, Teigin, Elijah and Morgyn and my granddaughter Jacqueline, who just made every day better by being there to make me smile......and last but certainly not least, the man that did not miss one appointment or treatment, my husband Jody. I could not have done this without you!

So, to everyone going through treatment, my only advise is to try to stay positive. I know that it is not always easy, but because of events like this, they have come so far with treatments. Hopefully one day we will be free of this disease for good! Thank you

How Fundraising Impacts Your Community

Cancer hits far too close to home, so the funds you raise will help do the same. Through services and resources like free rides to chemo, free places to stay near hospitals, and a live 24/7 helpline, cancer patients and their families will feel the love. Here’s how recent money raised has been put to incredible uses.

Since 1991 we have invested $3.43 billion in cancer research.

We have received over 360,000 calls and chats from patients and caregivers seeking support in 2023.

Cancer patients benefited from the ACS transportation support through our Road To Recovery program and transportation grants in 2023, with nearly 769,000 rides provided.

Cancer has touched all of us in some way. And we want to stop this disease in its tracks. We'll spend the next few weeks fundraising for the American Cancer Society. Then, on the day of the event, we'll honor the lives lost to cancer, celebrate survivors, and support the caregivers who so selflessly help others.

Together, we'll be a part of making a difference in this important cause.
