Relay RewardsOLA Friends and Family
Cancer has touched all of us in some way. This is our friend Bill Edwards. Bill walked a lot of Relays with me over the years. We called him IncrediBill. He didn't win his battle against Melanoma. This year, and every year to come, he is the guardian angel of our team. We also want to Relay for all the friends and family in our future who can and will live in a world without cancer in it. Together, we’ll be a part of making a difference in this important cause. If you register as a team member, you can have your own fundraising page to share with your friends, so you can add to our team total by asking your friends for donations on behalf of OLA Friends and Family. Please consider coming by and walking a few laps with us just to keep us going for the whole time. You can stay for a little or a lot. We'll be walking from 3-9pm, and each year when it was a 12 hour event I've logged no less than 16 miles personally because someone from our team needs to be on the track at all times, and when you only have a few team members, the miles rack up quickly, as do the blisters. So we could surely use your help. But it's not for us. It's for those for whom we walk that the real help is needed. So please share a donation if you can today, or register to walk with our team. The luminaria lighting takes place at dusk, and is incredibly moving. Luminaria are white bags that we place candles inside of. They have pictures of friends, names of friends, messages for friends...precious artwork from cherished grandchildren. They are messages of remembrance, and of hope. We will be selling them after masses during June, or in our Faith Formation Office, or you can stop by during the afternoon hours of the Relay and purchase one for $5 to remember your loved one, or to support someone currently in the fight against cancer. Hopefully I'll see you at Watervliet High School on Saturday June 11th 3-9pm. I'll be there, walking for Bill, my mom, my mother and father in law, my brother and sisters in law, my friend Kate, and so many many more.
If you are a member of this team and would like to customize this page with a special message or team photo, please contact us and we can designate you as the team captain. |

Thank you for fueling the American Cancer Society's fight against cancer.
Cancer hits far too close to home, so the funds you raise will help do the same. Through services and resources like free rides to chemo, free places to stay near hospitals, and a live 24/7 helpline, cancer patients and their families will feel the love. Here’s how recent money raised has been put to incredible uses.
As of January 2022, we have invested $400 M for potentially lifesaving cancer research grants.
We have received over 250,000 calls and chats from patients and caregivers seeking support in 2021
Cancer patients benefited from ACS transportation support through our Road TO Recovery program and transportation grants in 2021, with nearly 229,000 rides provided.
Many thanks to our generous sponsors for fueling the American Cancer Society's fight against cancer.

Relay RewardsThis isn’t what I wanted.
Cancer has touched all of us in some way. And we want to stop this disease in its tracks. We'll spend the next few weeks fundraising for the American Cancer Society. Then, on the day of the event, we'll honor the lives lost to cancer, celebrate survivors, and support the caregivers who so selflessly help others.
Together, we'll be a part of making a difference in this important cause.
