Relay For Life of the Mid-Valley by Oregon Oncology Specialists

Just Beat It

In June 2010, our family received the heart stopping news that one of our loved ones was diagnosed with Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer.  That person was my mother in-law Marge Bielefeld. In 2012, she went to the Relay For Life event and came back excited about her experience.  She asked if I would help her put a team together and participate in the Woodburn Event scheduled a month later.  That was the birth of Team Just Beat It.  Marge went through multiple surgeries and multiple types of treatment.  Unfortunatelly, she lost her battle in August of 2013.   In October of that same year, we lost her brother to lung cancer.  In February of 2014, we lost our grandfather to lymphoma.  In March of 2017, we lost my father in-law also to cancer.  In addition, Marge's mother continues to fight breast cancer.   Since then, we have had numerous family members and friends diagnosed with several types of cancer.   We know that we are not alone.

We relay to remember  those we have lost, we relay to support those who continue their fight, and we relay to celebrate our survivors.  We relay for more birthdays, we relay for strangers and we relay for the hope that you will never be personally touched by cancer.

Please help us continue to our efforts by donating for sending us prayers.   Thank you for your support!

How Fundraising Impacts Your Community

Cancer hits far too close to home, so the funds you raise will help do the same. Through services and resources like free rides to chemo, free places to stay near hospitals, and a live 24/7 helpline, cancer patients and their families will feel the love. Here’s how recent money raised has been put to incredible uses.

As of January 2022, we have invested $400 M for potentially lifesaving cancer research grants.

We have received over 250,000 calls and chats from patients and caregivers seeking support in 2021

Cancer patients benefited from ACS transportation support through our Road TO Recovery program and transportation grants in 2021, with nearly 229,000 rides provided.

Cancer has touched all of us in some way. And we want to stop this disease in its tracks. We'll spend the next few weeks fundraising for the American Cancer Society. Then, on the day of the event, we'll honor the lives lost to cancer, celebrate survivors, and support the caregivers who so selflessly help others.

Together, we'll be a part of making a difference in this important cause.
