Even though we all have our own reason for joining Relay For Life, we'll take down cancer because we're in it together. Our team is fundraising for the American Cancer Society's support service and lifesaving research. This year we are relaying for one of our members Moms, Roni Hyde, who was diagnosed with cancer in November. Here is her story;
My name is Roni Hyde, and I was diagnosed with Stage III ovarian cancer on November 1, 2023. My son, Zekiel Krejci-Hyde, is a senior at Doane and my pride and joy. My cancer journey has been difficult and has required major abdominal surgery in November and then starting chemotherapy in December. I was able to endure 2 rounds of chemotherapy; however, chemotherapy did not like me (severe reactions that caused 1 significant stay in the hospital) which led to other health problems. I am currently doing PARB inhibitors now since my cancer is genetic and I am grateful for this option and so far, am handling it well. My tumor marker continues to be low and I am cautiously optimistic in my continued journey. I am truly touched by PRISM having me as their mascot in this year's Relay for Life. Cancer sucks and a cure must be found.
