Even though we all have our own reason for joining Relay For Life, we'll take down cancer because we're in it together. Our team is fundraising for the American Cancer Society's support service and lifesaving research.
Believe us, every dollar really does count, so we're asking for your help. Please donate or join our team today, because together we can end cancer.
MY STORY: WHY RELAY FOR 40 YEARS?
DR. LYNETTE M GIBSON
I have participated in Relay for Life since 1983, primarily in memory of my loving mother, Mrs. Olive Richardson, who survived breast cancer for nine years for nine years. She had the inner strength I pray I have as I grow older. She might have lived older if radiation therapy had been available in Bermuda in 1992. This is one of the many situations that, had women and Mommy, may have survived longer because of research on mammograms conducted by the American Cancer Society and other cancer organizations. The picture on my page was taken with "Mommy” and me in 1987 when I graduated from Clemson University. Mommy told me for the first time, “I always wanted to be a nurse”. I was deeply touched and felt honored! While at the University of South Carolina, Mommy again inspired me as I completed my dissertation research! I celebrated Mommy and other Black women who were breast cancer survivors. The women in my study had an inner strength that they seemed to attain through inner resources like hope. These inner resources influenced their ability to positively cope psychologically with breast cancer. I celebrated the Black women who have their mammograms on schedule. These women do not fear breast cancer or fatalism, and see mammograms beneficially, particularly after having focused, fun programs such as “Save Our Breasts”. These research studies were conducted with nursing student researchers. Mommy is the “Wind Beneath My Wings”

Let's Beat Cancer Together!!!
Thank you for fueling the American Cancer Society's fight against cancer.
Cancer hits far too close to home, so the funds you raise will help do the same. Through services and resources like free rides to chemo, free places to stay near hospitals, and a live 24/7 helpline, cancer patients and their families will feel the love. Here’s how recent money raised has been put to incredible uses.
As of January 2022, we have invested $400 M for potentially lifesaving cancer research grants.
We have received over 250,000 calls and chats from patients and caregivers seeking support in 2021
Cancer patients benefited from ACS transportation support through our Road TO Recovery program and transportation grants in 2021, with nearly 229,000 rides provided.
Many thanks to our generous sponsors for fueling the American Cancer Society's fight against cancer.

Relay RewardsThis isn’t what I wanted.
Cancer has touched all of us in some way. And we want to stop this disease in its tracks. We'll spend the next few weeks fundraising for the American Cancer Society. Then, on the day of the event, we'll honor the lives lost to cancer, celebrate survivors, and support the caregivers who so selflessly help others.
Together, we'll be a part of making a difference in this important cause.
