A Cup of Hope -The Brick and Mortar Cafe

We opened our small cafe with our ribbon-giving campaign to raise money for the American Cancer Society in honor of my mom who was fighting a very rare and aggressive form of breast cancer. This was very important to me to be able to honor my mother as well as build community at the cafe who have also experienced cancer personally or as a caregiver/friend/family member/neighbor/etc. We have made many friends through this community and we have also lost a few friends as well. There have been many highs and lows, but through it all, we are in this together - you are not alone.

Monday, August 12th, 2024, my mother found her peace. She went her way. She moved to Georgia just prior, later confessing because 'she knew'. She moved into her dream home because she thought it would be the most peaceful place. She determined in her mind to make it through Sunday to be here for the peak of the meteor shower, she took her last breath Monday morning. She went her way. There are no words to express how grateful I am to ACS for the support they showered my family with as my mom went to the Cleveland Clinic for treatment. ACS helped cover some of the expenses and connected them with resources along the way. My mother had a rare Breast Cancer (Stage 4 Metastatic Invasive Lobular Carcinoma - Triple Negative), and hopefully, one day, this research will help prevent another family from experiencing the loss of a loved one dealing with an aggressive cancer like my mom had. Until that day, we relay and work toward a goal in hope.

Spread joy friends.

How Fundraising Impacts Your Community

Cancer hits far too close to home, so the funds you raise will help do the same. Through services and resources like free rides to chemo, free places to stay near hospitals, and a live 24/7 helpline, cancer patients and their families will feel the love. Here’s how recent money raised has been put to incredible uses.

Since 1991 we have invested $3.43 billion in cancer research.

We have received over 360,000 calls and chats from patients and caregivers seeking support in 2023.

Cancer patients benefited from the ACS transportation support through our Road To Recovery program and transportation grants in 2023, with nearly 769,000 rides provided.

Cancer has touched all of us in some way. And we want to stop this disease in its tracks. We'll spend the next few weeks fundraising for the American Cancer Society. Then, on the day of the event, we'll honor the lives lost to cancer, celebrate survivors, and support the caregivers who so selflessly help others.

Together, we'll be a part of making a difference in this important cause.
