A little bit about my background .... When I was diagnosed with Stage 2 ductal infiltrating carcinoma breast cancer on December 30, 2010, it felt like a cosmic joke. How could this be happening? I was the one who recorded healing harp music and developed innovative research to help newly diagnosed cancer patients feel a sense of peace and comfort during this frightening and confusing time. It didn’t take long to see the truth of what I had been avoiding it was much easier to stay busy creating ways to take care of others rather than slow down and take care of myself - physically, mentally and emotionally. Up until this point, my life appeared to be full of love, joy and happiness. What many never saw was the underlying stress and daily uncertainty of living with unaddressed anxiety. It soon became clear that one of the main lessons I needed to learn during this journey with cancer was how to slow down and lovingly take care of myself. My first diagnosis included a surgical lumpectomy, removal of 11 lymph nodes, 6 rounds of chemotherapy and 33 radiation treatments. My second diagnosis included a right mastectomy, full hysterectomy, and taking Tamoxifen for 7 ½ years. My experience would have been very different without the American Cancer Society. Their role in establishing mammograms as a standard of screening enabled early diagnosis in 2010 & 2012. Being adopted, their funding for genetic testing into BRCA1 and BRCA2 provided a peace of mind after I tested negative for both. Their support of clinical trials that led to the use of Tamoxifen offered me continual support for years and cancer.org was an invaluable resource of information, especially for my mother who was the best patient advocate! I am truly grateful for the many Life Lessons learned through my journey with breast cancer as they continue to help me remember: “Change is constant, so dance within the moment,” “When I’m caught in doing, I’m resisting Being,” “A shift in belief expands perceptions and alters the experience,” and “It’s important to take time for myself.” Today, I love inspiring and empowering others with: Healing Harp Music - www.MusicForCancerCare.com Loving Life…All of It A Walk with Cancer, Compassion and Consciousness book Conscious Self-Care videos and programs CEU approved for professional care providers Creating Harmony Within & Around Us talks, programs and trainings Natural products and essential oils as a doTERRA Wellness Advocate
