Corvettes Racing For The Cure
Overview On September 14th, 2019, like-minded Corvette and car enthusiasts will come together for a common purpose—raising awareness and funds to end breast cancer. Our one day high performance driving event will take place at the ridge motorsports Park in Shelton and everyone is invited to join. The Experience Three Opportunities: 1. If you’ve ever dreamed of zipping around a race track at twice the legal speed then this event is for you! Our event is a two-day high performance driving event allowing people to ride along with experienced drivers in BMWs, Porsches, Mustangs, Miatas, stock cars, and Vipers, just to name a few.... Experience first-hand the thrill and exhilaration of riding in a sports car. If riding along is not for you, come and join us on the paddock to take in the sights and sounds of a Track Day! 2. One Hour Karting Race-15 Teams battling for checker flag. Contact Tom Duncan @ duncantj1@hotmail.com to enter a team. 3. Car Show: Bring your favorite car to display ! Background All fundraising for a cause begins when a personal story and personal values meet. Although the inspiration for this fundraiser came in September 2017, the background boils down to a few things: Our family mantra: Corvettes=Family=Love; the value of team and “taking care of our own” that I honed while serving in Desert Storm and have witnessed while watching racing teams; and the “Corvette Family” and “Track Family” I have had the privilege to be a part of. Couple these with the story of a friend whose wife is battling breast cancer, and the idea came to life. The story goes like this: While attending in September 2017, with my father-in-law, Ralph, we had the honor of meeting the Corvette racing team. Ron Helzer, lead mechanic, from the Corvette team gave us a tour of the garage and facilities. Everyone we met to include, Mr. and Mrs. Pratt, Ron Fellows, the drivers Antonio Garcia, Tommy Milner, Oliver Gavin, Jan Magnussen, Tom Dix to the entire team treated us with such grace, dignity, and hospitality, that we felt like family. Watching the team from the Corvette Garage in Laguna we could see they were well-oiled unit working as one cohesive team. However, it ran deeper than that. They were a family. This is when I heard the story of Tom Dix and his wife Erica. Erica’s mother is a breast cancer survivor. During the Laguna Race, The Corvette Racing Team was raising funds for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and I experienced first-hand the generosity of my fellow Corvette Owners as they opened not only their wallets, but also their hearts to Tom and Erica! It was so rewarding to see everyone come together to make a difference in the fight against breast cancer. This is where my inspiration spawned the idea of holding a track event to support Tom and Erica Dix’s family and frankly everyone whose lives have been touched by cancer. Based upon my great friend, Tom Pritchett’s idea who owns Turn2 and raises tens of thousands of dollars for kids with cancer with his Camp Goodtimes Track Event, my team was able to organize with less than a week’s notice and was able to raise $1600 in 2017. In 2018, our “Pit Crew” put together an amazing 2 day event that was sponsored by Gerber Collison and The Ridge raising not only awareness for breast cancer but also $22,822! This year we want to organize an event that creates a legacy of love and compassion by combining our passion for cars, family and be a part of a movement that is greater than ourselves i.e. finding the cure for breast cancer! Why the American Cancer Society and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer? The American Cancer Society attacks cancer from every angle, are dedicated to prevention and early detection, work for equity and access to care, and fund vital research. Although Making Strides supports their breast cancer initiatives, the American Cancer Society supports people with and funds research for all types of cancer. Today, we know that one in two men and one in three women will be diagnosed with cancer in his or her lifetime. One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer, specifically, and of those diagnosed, two out of three will survive the disease. We have a lot of work to do so that everyone who is diagnosed survives the disease. Every donation—big or small—makes an impact. So, we invite you to join us—Corvettes Racing For The Cure—on September 14th, 2019—for a thrilling and live-saving time! How you can join! Anyone can help: Be a part of our event by simply coming out and going for a ride! Make a donation online, bring cash, or a check made out to the American Cancer Society or online at the bottom of Corvettesracingforthecure.com Register online, set a goal, and fundraise! You can do this as a driver, participant, or even a “virtual racer”! Ask you friends and family for your support! Volunteer to be a driver! Recruit or become a sponsor!

Welcome to our Team Page. We've formed a team because this cause is important to us. We want to help. And walking and raising money in our local American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event is the best way we can do that. We all have different reasons for participating but we share a determination to help save lives from breast cancer.
There are so many ways that the money our team raises helps. It’s helping fund innovative research. It's providing free information for people dealing with the disease. It’s providing rides to treatment and places to stay for people who have to seek treatment far from home. In short, our money is helping save lives. Consider donating to our team and helping advance the cause.
How We Support the American Cancer Society
Of course we walk in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event. And we solicit donations from family, friends, and other supporters. But we also schedule fundraisers in lead-up to the big event. Bake-sales, car washes, and countless other types of events. And we promote those on social media, through Facebook and Twitter, by word of mouth, and through flyers at work and around the neighborhood. The success of fundraising events depends on two things - hard work and getting the word out. And we're out to do both. Keep an eye out for our fundraising events.
