Calling All Team Kick-It Fans,  Are you ready to do it again this year?

In 2021 I proudly spoke on behalf of Teachers Federal Credit Union & shared my story at the Suffolk County press conference with Steve Bellone. My family, friends & co-workers donated $3,500 and we walked together at the Jones Beach Walk. We enjoyed the spotlight on ABC7 with Stacey Sager. It was truly EPIC!

In 2022 I raised $3092 and had so many new walkers.

In 2023 we raised $2500 and my son branched off in his own group, "Grand Avenue Cares",  and raised over $3000.

In 2024 I'm working on several fun events to help raise money and breast cancer awareness.  I'm hoping this year everyone I know can be included in some way.

My Story:

As a woman in Mortgage Banking my goal was always to break the “glass ceiling” and be able to be successful in a male dominated industry.  As I continued to rise the corporate ladder, I found myself forgetting my own health concerns.  After my first diagnosis of Lung Cancer 14 years ago, it showed me how so many women do not put themselves first.  I was so busy being the wife, daughter, and mother that I forgot to take care of myself. We are not encouraged, at work or at home, to put ourselves first.  We tend to focus on others and at the same time put ourselves at risk.  I beat Lung Cancer in 2010, while pregnant, and came out feeling ready to take on the world. In 2019 I started a new chapter in my book as an Outside Mortgage Loan Officer for Teachers Federal Credit Union.  Only a few months after starting did I self-discover my breast cancer.  As devastated as I was upon hearing my diagnosis, I was more terrified to tell my manager.  What would they think?  What would they say? The “new girl” has Cancer?!  It played repeatedly in my head.  I fought back the urge to crawl into a ball and cry, and I leaned on my “Teachers Family”.  With the support of our Mortgage Team, not only did I complete my training and start successfully helping our members with homeownership, I completed my chemotherapy, and post-treatments all while COVID interrupted our lives.  None of it was easy!  Using resources from the ACS website about the type of cancer I had helped alleviate my anxiety, fight cancer, and focus on my next steps in recovery.

Today, I proudly stand here, knowing that not only did I learn how to advocate for myself, but that my Teachers Family helped support me when I was in need.  I am forever grateful.  I am always reminding other women to take time to look after themselves because early detection of cancer is imperative and it can be beaten.

Since 2020 I've been able to help and comfort several more women I know personally through their own battle against this disease.  I’ve been able to make their journey more tolerable and became an extended support system to them with a plethora of information to share.  Cancer did not beat me, or them, and it doesn’t have to beat you.  Speak up and tell your story and watch how compassionate people can be.

Welcome to our Team Page. We've formed a team because this cause is important to us. We want to help. And walking and raising money in our local American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event is the best way we can do that. We all have different reasons for participating but we share a determination to help save lives from breast cancer.

There are so many ways that the money our team raises helps. It’s helping fund innovative research. It's providing free information for people dealing with the disease. It’s providing rides to treatment and places to stay for people who have to seek treatment far from home. In short, our money is helping save lives. Consider donating to our team and helping advance the cause.

How We Support the American Cancer Society

Of course we walk in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event. And we solicit donations from family, friends, and other supporters. But we also schedule fundraisers in lead-up to the big event. Bake-sales, car washes, and countless other types of events. And we promote those on social media, through Facebook and Twitter, by word of mouth, and through flyers at work and around the neighborhood. The success of fundraising events depends on two things - hard work and getting the word out. And we're out to do both. Keep an eye out for our fundraising events.
